Liposuction Procedure

A tiny incision is made in an inconspicuous location near the area to be treated. The cosmetic surgeon uses a small cannula sometimes as small as 2mm in diameter, to suction fat cells that are causing the undesirable proportion.

Liposuction Post-Operative Care

Immediately following the liposuction surgery procedure, patients may feel a slight burning sensation and mild to moderate discomfort, which typically can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Patients should wear a snug support garment for approximately three weeks following their liposuction procedure to keep bruising and swelling to a minimum. Depending on the area treated, optimal improvement in one's appearance is usually realized in three to six months after treatment.

When To Have a Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction can be performed on most individuals with diet-resistant fat; however, the ideal candidate is healthy with good skin elasticity. The liposuction surgery procedure should not be considered a substitute for weight loss and, therefore, should not be performed on severely obese individuals. Although liposuction can virtually eliminate bothersome bulges from certain areas of the body, it cannot remove waffled skin caused by cellulite. Realistic expectations are usually met when individuals hope to look better in clothing and not necessarily naked.
