Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
The eyelids are often the first facial feature to show signs of aging, resulting in a sad, tired appearance in even the most energetic woman.
Blepharoplasty, or surgical reshaping of the eyelid, can return youthful elegance to a woman's face, making her eyes brighter and more refreshed.

Some women experience an accumulation of fat in the lower eyelids, creating persistent "bags" under the eyes. These "bags", however, are not always related to aging.
This tendency may be inherited and may appear early in life before the aging process becomes noticeable.
Other women may notice that the skin of the upper eyelids may become lax and impart a hooded appearance to the upper eyelids and, in severe instances, obscure vision. Sometimes this
excess skin is caused by sagging of the forehead and eyebrows. If this is the case, a brow lift should be considered.
Procedures
An upper eyelid blepharoplasty involves an incision in the natural skin fold above the eye, where it will be hidden. During a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, the incision is made inside
the lower lid where it will be invisible following treatment. Excess skin and fat deposits are removed as necessary, creating more definition beneath the eyebrow and around the eye.
Post-Operative Care
Following the procedure, the eyelids tend to be swollen and bruised for a few days. Simply applying an ice pack to the eyes helps most patients.
For at least one week, patients should avoid substances that may irritate the eyes, including cleansing lotions, sunscreen, moisturizing creams and makeup. The eyes may be sensitive
to light, wind and dust for a few weeks; however, using eyedrops and wearing sunglasses will help alleviate this sensitivity.
When to Have the Procedure
In most cases, hooded eyelids tend to occur with age, and women who have their eyelids reshaped are typically between 35 to 50 years old. The results are usually long-lasting. Teenagers
may also benefit from blepharoplasty if they have a hereditary condition that causes hooded eyelids or persistent "bags" under their eyes.
