Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
One of the more popular cosmetic procedures among older women is an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, which involves removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen to create a smoother, flatter
appearance. By contouring, tightening and flattening the abdomen, abdominoplasty offers individuals an attractive and more physically fit appearance.

Procedure
An incision is made in the bikini area of the abdomen, where it is not noticeable when wearing a swimsuit. The surgeon carefully removes as much fat as possible and pulls the skin taut, trimming the excess.
Post-Operative Care
Following an abdominoplasty, pain medication and bed rest are prescribed for about five days. Bruises on the abdominal skin will fade after three to four weeks. Patients must wear a bandage to support the abdomen for a short time.
When to Have the Procedure
For optimal results, a woman should consider a tummy tuck after the cause of stomach stretching is gone (for example, after she has had her children or lost excessive weight). The best results from abdominoplasty are usually obtained when a woman
is in fairly good physical shape since strong muscles heal faster with less pain. Before the procedure, patients are encouraged to begin an exercise regimen that includes strength-building exercises, such as swimming and abdominal crunches.
